The Third Root: Fuel

When getting it wrong in health and wellness doesn't serve you or your body well.

This is one of my personal failures around food that I will share with you. For some years,  I struggled with skipping meals due to busyness, or I  would just "forget" to eat. As time went by, I began to learn more about how food IS fuel for my body, and I began to shift my mindset around that fuel.  This took time and intention because, in my go-go mindset and daily habits, I had to slow down and be intentional about the fuel I was going to choose. I came to understand the true nature of the nourishment and energy needed for my body to heal, function, and thrive.

Food as the Language of Health

Every bite you take sends a message to your body. Food isn’t just fuel—it’s information that impacts your energy, hormones, immune system, and mental clarity. At Connected Roots Wellness, we believe food is a powerful tool for healing when chosen with intention.

Why Nutrition Matters

Nutrient-rich foods provide the building blocks for healthy cells, balanced energy, and a strong immune system. Processed, sugary, and inflammatory foods, on the other hand, can cloud the body’s ability to function at its best.

Simple Shifts for Nourishment

  • Eat the rainbow (colorful fruits and vegetables)

  • Include protein with each meal for energy and satiety

  • Stay hydrated with pure water

  • Swap processed snacks for whole food options

  • Practice mindful eating—slow down, chew, and savor

Gentle Challenge

Add one extra serving of colorful vegetables to your plate each day this week. Notice how your body responds to the increase in nourishment.
