The Second Root: Movement

The physical movement of the body & how movement has a role in healing is what moved me into becoming a chiropractor…pun intended :) When we move well, we live well. I saw this over and over again in private practice: the impact and the ripple effect of someone not moving well, and how that not only impacts the person but also impacts the people around them, too. And the same is true for when moving comes easily, your mood, your outlook on life, and your relationships are all impacted in a positive way.

Why Your Body Was Designed to Move

Movement is life. From the moment we’re born, our bodies are wired for motion, and every system—from our circulation to our mood—is improved when we move with intention. At Connected Roots Wellness, we see movement not as punishment for what you ate, but as a celebration of what your body can do and is designed to do.

Why Movement Matters

Regular movement strengthens muscles, protects joints, balances hormones, improves brain function, and even reduces the risk of chronic illness. Beyond the physical, it lifts mood and builds resilience. The body is designed to be physically active - all systems function better when movement is incorporated. So, find movement that fits your life and that you enjoy.

Finding Joy in Movement

  • Take daily walks in nature

  • Try strength training for longevity

  • Explore yoga or Pilates for flexibility and calm

  • Dance to your favorite playlist

  • Stretch in between work tasks

Gentle Challenge

Choose one joyful way to move for at least 10 minutes a day this week. Focus not on “burning calories,” but on how movement makes you feel.
