The Fifth Root: Community

Reaching back once again to 2011 and 2012 when my husband was deployed for 407 days, but who counted?! That was a tough year, and the word tough is rather light if you knew all the things. What I know for sure is that I would not have been upright through that time without the love, support, and holding from my community. It was an absolute necessity for my own health and for keeping the unraveling fear and anxiety at bay. We are indeed created for community and connection, not to be alone. In fact, the research shows it.

Healing Happens Together

Humans were created for connection. Strong, supportive relationships are one of the most powerful predictors of health and longevity. At Connected Roots Wellness, healing is amplified in community and even somewhat necessary.

Why Community Matters

Research shows loneliness can increase stress, weaken immunity, and shorten lifespan. On the other hand, belonging and support from living in community improve resilience, reduce anxiety, and foster joy.

Building Healthy Community

  • Spend intentional time with friends or family

  • Join a group that aligns with your interests or faith

  • Practice active listening and empathy

  • Seek out mentors and accountability partners

  • Set healthy boundaries to protect energy

Gentle Challenge

Reach out to one person this week you’d like to reconnect with. Send a note, call, or invite them for tea or coffee. Connection starts with a simple step.
